GWR CLASS 143 TO JOIN PLYM VALLEY RAILWAY

The Plym Valley Railway is pleased to announce that it will be receiving Class 143 No. 143618 from Great Western Railway. We would like to thank GWR for their consideration and cooperation as the unit will arrive in a superb condition and ready for use. The Class 143 has been a common site in Devon for many years and this unit was seen regularly working between Paignton & Exmouth with First Great Western and then GWR before being withdrawn and stored at Bristol SPM in December 2020. Upon arrival at Marsh Mills the ‘pacer’ will undergo exams and conversion training for staff and will then be available to be used in service. Having a second 2nd generation DMU gives the railway flexibility, allows us to maintain a service while one undergoes planned maintenance and means we can strengthen our service at times of high demand. We are hoping to have the unit in service for our upcoming Transport Weekend in July. The Plym Valley Railway would like to again thank GWR for the kind gesture and hope we can work together when further assets become available.
