As a member you may also become a volunteer at the railway. Volunteers are always made most welcome and are very much needed as we are as a small railway with a lot to do and with plans to grow and achieve much more.
There are many and varied jobs that are needed from cutting the grass, helping to run the trains, assisting to build and maintain the line, maintaining and restoring the locomotives and rolling stock or helping to build up the infrastructure. Currently we are extending the platform at Marsh Mills and plan to build a new ticket office and waiting room. Many more projects are planned. You could even aspire to driving the steam or diesel locomotives, if you do not mind getting really dirty!
There is always something to do. Experience is not necessary, everyone is welcome from 16 to 160! Many young people find volunteering helps them to achieve employment and we have a least one young member who has gained employment in this way, not specifically linked to trains but engineering. So, if you think you have something to offer, come and join us.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, write to the Membership Secretary at the address on the home page, or pop down and see us, we are on site most Sunday afternoons. You can come along, meet the gang and find out how it all works.
Please note that as a volunteer you must be a member of the P.V.R.A. and will after training, be required to be passed as competent in track safety. As a volunteer only organisation each volunteer is responsible for providing their own overalls etc. Details will be given when you contact the railway.
